Parents As Reading Partners
"Share the Treasure With Captain Book!"
March 31 through April 11, 2008

Reading is a very important part of your child's education. On Monday, March 31st we will begin our "Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) program. The program will run through April 11th. This year our theme is "Share the Treasure with Captain Book."

The goal of the program is to have your child read with a family member each night. Your child will develop good reading habits and a love for reading. A minimum of twenty minutes of shared reading every day should be an enjoyable and memorable experience.

During the 2-week program, school activities and incentives have been planned to encourage reading. Each grade will compete with their peers and winning classrooms are announced on Monday morning and prizes are delivered that day to the class with the most minutes read, so make sure you send in those minute logs on FRIDAY to be counted. Last year our program inspired children of all grade levels to read more than their required minutes.

Your child is to read with you or a family member 20 minutes or more each night. Your child should return the time sheet log each FRIDAY morning indicating the number of minutes he/she read each night that week. Parents, please sign the forms and make sure your child brings the forms in on Friday. Minutes are calculated over the weekend.

Also parents, please join us on Book Bingo night to learn about the program. We will explain how the program works to you and your children, and then the children can play Book Bingo. All children attending Book Bingo receive 1 Book Bingo card and there will be prizes for the winners. An adult must accompany children.

I know you will enjoy this wonderful reading experience with your child.

Sincerely,

PARP Committee
