Art is practiced as a part of general education and as a special subject area. The art program at J. Fred Sparke Elementary School encourages students to be creative and to appreciate art. Regardless of one's talent, art allows students to explore their own imagination and to develop skills to help create wonderful works of art. Additionally, the art program develops an awareness of art appreciation, aesthetics and the encouragement to pursue multiple pathways to learning and self-expression.

The New York State Standards are an integral part of each art lesson. Many art projects are introduced through literature, viewing of art history, and through an interdisciplinary connection.

The students demonstrate their creativity and imagination through their outstanding artwork. They communicate their vision of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art through various mediums such as collage, tempera paint, watercolors, oil pastels, clay, paper-mache, and colored pencil.
