The Island Trees Memorial Middle School
Student Council Presents:

Island Trees Memorial Middle School Polar Plunge Challenge!

Who: The Island Trees Memorial Middle School together with the ITMMS Student Council!  Thank you to Jessica Holt, one of our eighth grade Student Council members, for the suggestion that the school take part in the Polar Plunge.

What: Fundraiser to send local children with life threatening diseases and their families to Camp Sunshine for 1 week! Nestled alongside the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake, Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. The year-round program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement groups are also offered for families who have lost a child to an illness.

Where: Camp Sunshine is located in the state of Maine. Since the opening of the year-round campus in 2001, more ill children and their families have come from New York (many from the Long Island area) than any other state in the nation. In 2007, 190 families from New York participated in our program. Sadly, even with multiple sessions being added annually at Camp Sunshine, there are still many more children from New York being newly diagnosed each year.

When: Saturday, March 1st at 2:00pm- James Caples Memorial Park Beach in Amityville.

Why: ITMMS teachers and staff have pledged to jump into the freezing cold water if we can raise at least $8,000 as a school. That is less than a donation of $10 a student! For every $1,600 that is donated, one more local Long Island family can attend this very special camp!

How: Students are asked to return donations and pledge forms to either their Home Base teachers in 5th or 6th grade, or their Social Studies teachers in 7th or 8th grade.
