MMS Departments

The reading department at the Island Trees Memorial Middle School is quite unique. Although the department is a small one, it is able to fulfill a wide range of needs and support services. Together the reading teachers provide the necessary reading and writing support to all students and teachers by working collaboratively with all fifth and sixth grade E.L.A. classes, as well as the seventh and eighth grade English and Reading & Writing Workshops.

Once a week, these classes are provided with the support and guidance of the reading department. Whether it is in a push-in or pull-out setting, students are introduced to a variety of ways to attack and comprehend the written word. Through modeling and practice, students are able to recognize the traits of successful readers, writers, and learners.
