Mission Statement

Physical education is a learning process that focuses on increasing knowledge and affecting attitudes and behaviors relative to physical activities, including exercise, sports, games, dance, and outdoor/indoor adventure activities. Physical education is an important component of the overall school program. It is an integral part of the total educational program that contributes, primarily through physical activity experiences, to the growth and development of all students.

Physical education provides multiple opportunities to acquire many of the skills required for the real-life pursuit of education. In addition to fostering active and healthy lifestyles, basic motor skill acquisition, and discipline mastery, physical education provides opportunities to learn useful and critical pedagogic practices. Real-life elements such as race and gender relations, social responsibility, teamwork, fair play, self-actualization and self-esteem development are infused in nearly every physical education activity. If kids learn how to deal with these issues in the microcosm of the school environment, they will surely leave their formal institutions with a better idea of how to deal with the same issues throughout their lives.

Each student will have the opportunity to become a responsible, independent decision-maker who has positive feelings of self-worth, as well as positive feelings about the worth of others. Our hope is that students will be prepared not merely to cope in society, but to be creative and contributing members who enjoys a positive, healthy lifestyle in a safe environment.
