Welcome to the Island Trees School Earth Foundation Web Site

Island Trees Students Care

Dear Parents;

The friends of the Environment Club have been working all year on various

Projects including the initiation of a new “Go Green” recycling plan. In an effort to

raise environmental awareness and involve more students in protecting our

environment, we have begun the 2007-2008 Adopt-an-Acre Project.

This Year, the rainforest project will benefit Costa Rica’s own Peninsula.

Expanding agriculture, development, mining, logging and tourism threaten Costa

Rica’s last frontier. The Osa Peninsula is a sanctuary of lush rainforests that are home to scarlet macaws, jaguars, monkeys, pumas, sea turtles, and over 375 Species of birds, 4000 species of plants and more than 700 species of trees. The Osa has two main protected areas- Corcovado National Park and Pledras Blancas National Park. To ensure safe passage for the peninsula’s roaming

wildlife, the Nature Conservancy is working to build biological corridors between

these two parks. Every ten items sold will adopt one acres of rainforest!

Our school will receive a Certificate of Adoption from The Natural Conservancy.

Exceptional schools saving 20 Acre Club Poster that goes out to thousands of schools

across the nation. In addition, 50 acre schools receive a 3’x 5’ personalized

banner and a gift certificate for a pizza party! 100 acre schools receive a

personalized etched glass trophy and are entered into a drawing for a free trip for

one to Costa Rica for 10 days! 150 acre schools will receive a free trip for one to Costa Rica!

The T-shirts are high quality and designed to wash and wear well, keeping their

bright colors and fit intact. Samples of the shirts can be found in Room 203.

All items are $14.00 each.   Coupon order forms are provided for each shirt, hat,

tote bag or boxer purchased and need to be filled out completely before being turned in.

The money for each item must accompany the coupon before it can be ordered. Checks or money orders need to be made out to Island Trees Memorial Middle School. An order will be placed about every two weeks and should arrive within two weeks. Deadline for placing all orders is Monday May 26th. For more information, please visit http://earthfound.com or http://www.nature.org/joinanddonate/adoptanacre/about.

Our goal is for every child to sell 10 items and adopt his or her own acre of rainforest!

Please don’t view this as “just another fundraiser.” It is our hope that our project

Will be one of the most memorable and learning-rich experiences for your child.

Remember, your participation and support will foster a sense of community spirit

and responsibility that will impact this generation for the rest of their lives.

Please feel free to call us with any questions. There is a link to T-shirt order forms on this site.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Aponte & Ms. DeAngelo
