Each year Stokes Art teacher, Mrs. Ecker, exposes the third grade students to the
cave paintings at Lascaux, France. First, they use technology to explore the cave by
entering the Lascaux Cave website, and take a
virtual visit of the now sealed-off cave. Students discover how cave paintings
were created with use of natural colors and paintings which told stories of
Paleolithic times. Students then artistically create their own "cave paintings"
using crumpled up butcher paper, oil pastels and watercolors. Lascaux Cave website
is also listed in the ITSD Elementary Links.
