Island Trees School District
Best Practices in Technology

TEACHERS in Island Trees schools have created lessons that engage their students in utilizing technology as a tool. Their lessons reflect the research-based principles that represent best practices in teaching and learning. Many lessons contain similar activities, such as the use of thematic units of studies, collaborative group activities, differentiation, and authentic assessments. These activities shift learning from teacher-directed to student-centered and transfer responsibility for active learning to the students in any subject. The lessons which follow show how teachers have merged technology with what we know about the "best practices" in teaching to deepen and enhance learning for all students.
