Island Trees Outdoor Club

On Saturday April 28th, the Outdoor Club began a two day hike in Harriman State Park that would cover 5 miles and almost 1000 feet of elevation gain.  For many, this was their first backpacking trip.  Students needed to carry all they needed in their backpacks, including shared equipment such as tents, food, and cooking equipment.  The weather on Saturday was near perfect, which unfortunately did not last.  After setting up camp and cooking dinner, the torrential rains forced everyone to retire to their tents for the remainder of the night.  The next morning, the passing flock of turkeys was a sign to cook some breakfast, dry things out, and break camp.  The kids (and adult chaperones!) successfully completed this challenge and we are already looking forward to the next adventure!
