The 2nd Biggest Event on Super Sunday!

February 4th, was not just Super Bowl Sunday, it was the Nassau County Frosh/Soph Meet. Most teams, big and small, competed in prestigious event

held at the indoor St. Anthony's facility. The Island Trees Track & Field team did quite well. Gold medals were earned by the following competitors:

  • Alyssa Mayo in the 9th grade shot put
  • Nicolette LoMonte in the 9th grade hurdles and in the long jump*
  • Johnny Martinez in the 9th grade long jump
  • Cara Duffy in the 10th grade 1000 meter

*Please note that Nicolette is an 8th grader

Other medal winners included:

  • Rebecca Gersbeck in the 10th grade Shot put (2nd)
  • Courtney Martin in the 10th grade hurdles (3rd) and the long jump (4th)
  • Matt Sellitto in the 300 meter run (4th)
  • Erin Maguire in the 1000 meter run (3rd)

Many other members of our team also excelled by setting individual bests. These included:

  • Nick Johnson in the 300 meter
  • Justin Ortiz in the 1600 meter
  • Aiden Watson in the 1600 meter
  • Matt Zerberini in the 1600 meter
  • Juan Ivaldy in the 300 meter
  • Claudia Rodriguez in the 1000 meter
  • Dom Mushorn in the 1000 meter

With such underclassmen, and young coaches such as Will Frohnhoefer and Sarah Lambert, it looks as though the program is in very good hands over the next few years.
