S.T.A.R.S. 2018

Sterling National Bank Supports Island Trees School to Career Program

On January 16, 2018, our Career Advantage students at Island Trees High School had the coolest midterm.  Sponsored by Sterling National Bank, with a generous grant, the students were transported to the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale for the 13th Annual Lois Cornibert Memorial S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking Action for Real Success) Interview Conference.  At the forum, our students had the unique opportunity to interview with members of our Island Trees School to Business Partnership Advisory Board.  In addition, students had the chance to practice their networking skills with career mentors from many different fields after the luncheon portion of the conference.  The special keynote speaker was BFCU's Deborah Brousseau and the inspirational wrap-up speaker was Island Trees graduate, Nick Tonno, the CEO of Selfie Cookie.  Our Career Advantage students learned skills that will last a lifetime.

We thank the following volunteers:  Christine Sweeney, Sterling National Bank; Peg DiIorio, Weight Watchers; Mike Levy, Minuteman Press; Louise Cassano, LuCas Communications; Debra Brousseau, BFCU; Don Patane, Main Street Financial; Peter Ray, AG Electric; Ann Lecky, AAR; Theresa Faughnan, Northwell Health; Greg Faughnan, HSBC; John Diliberto, Island Drafting and Technical Institute; Shree Dwivedi, Peoples United Bank; Deborah Connelly, Sterling National Bank; Frank McKenna, Seaford Public Library; Diane Witt, Cruise Planners and Nick Tonno, Selfie Cookie.  It is the volunteers from our community that make our school to career program successful!
