The first week of December is Computer Science Education week across the nation. Island Trees High School joined the celebration by participating in the hour of code event organized by code.org. Students of all grades and levels spent a class period learning a brief history of computer science, the principles behind coding as well as the career opportunities available for computer scientists.
Hour of code has several different activities of all levels. The images below show our students making their own Google Doodle using Scratch. Students, and parents, can continue exploring the world of coding on their own using programs like Scratch. Island Trees also has a coding club that meets weekly where students can help each other grow as programmers.
