Consumer Sciences

On October 3rd, the Island Trees High School Family and Consumer Sciences students visited Wickham's Fruit Farm in Cutchogue.  The weather was gorgeous and the day was filled with apple picking, pumpkin picking, a wagon tour of the farm and a demonstration of their cider press.  The students ended their field trip with a picnic lunch and the option to buy fresh produce and of course, their famous cider donuts.   Each student donated one apple to be used in recipes that will be made during  the upcoming weeks .  The bake shop classes made apple pie bars  and apple crumble.  Mrs Alahverdian's food and fitness classes made an apple breakfast cookie, apple crisp and overnight apple oatmeal.  Mrs. Purrman's  advanced bake shop students made a rustic apple tart with salted caramel drizzle and caramel apple cheesecake bars with streusel topping.  A spectacular day was had by all who attended and we will definitely be visiting Wickham's Fruit Farm again.
