Wilmer Reyes Recognized as the Arts Alive LI 2016 Grand Prize Poster Contest Winner

On Tuesday, September 20th, Wilmer Reyes was honored at LIU Post's Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Wilmer's creative and colorful poster design captured the Grand Prize and was selected from over 200 outstanding entries. The president of the LI Arts Alliance announced that Wilmer will receive a 300.00 check in recognition of his talent and his wonderful poster will be on exhibit at the Long Island Children's Museum throughout the month of October.
With his remarkable poster prominently displayed in the front of an admiring audience that included his family, Mrs. Lapertosa, Dr. Murphy, and Mrs. Krull, Wilmer was called up to the podium by Roger Tilles, member of both the NYS Regents and LI Arts Alliance Advisory Boards, to say a few words about how art has inspired him. Wilmer explained that art is not only a release for stress, but also for his creative energy.
His proud teacher, Mrs. Janine Lapertosa, speaks highly of both Wilmer and his work: "Wilmer is such a talented young artist. In his work, Wilmer creates detailed worlds of imagination. He is strongly inspired by history and architecture, as well by as mythical ideas; he uses his knowledge to create a visual story that captures the viewer entirely. He is such a pleasure to teach and have as a student! Through his ideas and visual stories, not only am I teaching him, but he is teaching me!"
October is National Arts & Humanities Month. For a map of exciting events on Long Island throughout the month of October, check out this link:

We are so very proud of Wilmer and wish him luck as he begins his high school art career!
