Mr. Hakeem Rahim

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, students in Ms. Jaime Rocheís MMS health classes were visited by Mr. Hakeem Rahim, a representative from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Mr. Rahim offered an interactive presentation about mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia, and discussed ways in which people deal with the symptoms of these conditions. Living with bipolar disorder since the age of nineteen, Mr. Rahim told his life story and how he continues to work every day to maintain a stable and enjoyable living experience. Mr. Rahim discussed ways for students to learn to break the stigma of mental illnesses and to learn to accept people for who they are and what they will become in life. Mr. Rahim talked to the students about the upcoming NAMI Awareness Walk on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Eisenhower Park. To join Mr. Rahimís Letís Talk Mental Illness Super Team to support mental illness awareness, registration is at 9:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:00 a.m.

Thank you to Ms. Roche for arranging this worthwhile and informative presentation.
