U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad 2017

Six Island Trees High School students will be participating in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad program Sunday, March 5, 2017.  The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to achieve excellence in chemistry.  The following six students were nominated to take this prestigious exam: Kenneth Chan, Brienna Carter, Michael Messina, Zuhal Saljooki, Sharjeel Shaikh and David Wendt.   We wish our amazing Island Trees Chemistry Team luck at the local level and hope they make it to the National level.  The top 20 scoring students from the local exam will then be chosen to attend a camp where they study for the International competition.  Four students will then be chosen from the study camp to represent the U.S. at the International Chemistry Olympiad annual competition competing against the world's most talented chemistry students.  This year the International competition will be held at the Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, where they will be tested on their chemistry knowledge and skills in a five-hour laboratory practical and five-hour written theoretical examination.

Congratulations to the six students who made the local team and we wish you the best of luck on Sunday!
