Island Trees HS Chorus Attends a Placido Domingo performance at The Metropolitan Opera!
The Island Trees HS Chorus, along with their director, Mrs. Susan Oliveto, and chaperones HS Assistant Principal Mrs. Pamela Hostetter, and Miss Kelly Keenan, attended a dress rehearsal of composer Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco, at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center recently. Starring in the opera was legendary opera singer Placido Domingo in the title role of Nabucco, and the opera was conducted by legendary orchestral conductor James Lavine. The students attended this opera dress rehearsal as part of a program called "Access Opera" ran by the Metropolitan Opera Guild's School Partnership program. The purpose of this program is to invite student groups to experience a visit to Lincoln Center, as well as learn about and see a live dress rehearsal of a famous opera. Tour guides were provided to help with the process and talk about the opera itself to the students. Other leading roles were Dmitry Belosselskiy as Zaccaria, Russell Thomas as Ismaele, Jamie Barton as Fenena, and Liudmyla Monastyrska as Abigail. The opera was performed in Italian. The HS Chorus looks forward to attending this program again next year!
