Cuneiform Tablet

Mrs. Vogt's homebase social studies class,  collaborated with Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Lauber on a special project. During social studies, Mrs. Vogt's class have been learning about Ancient Mesopotamia. As an enrichment project, a small group of students had the opportunity to pick a hands-on assignment, where they researched a topic in-depth using the library databases and Google features.
For a culminating activity, students made clay using flour, cornstarch, water, and salt. These ingredients were used to make cuneiform tablets. In-pairs, students had to decipher what their words were using a cuneiform chart that displayed the Sumerian alphabet and symbols. The words and symbols were written on the clay, cuneiform tablet.
This was one hands-on project that our students will never forget!
