5th and 6th Graders Are Full STEAM Ahead!
Mr. Dan Cava has captured the interest of our 5th and 6th grade students by inviting them to join in a variety of STEAM challenges during morning club meetings. 5th graders meet on Wednesday mornings; 6th graders gather on Thursday mornings.
Their recent challenge invited them to build towers out of gummy bears and toothpicks; the tallest tower able to stand on its own was the winner! Follow-up discussion included the value of good base design: trusses (triangles) were the strongest shape for bases. In addition, the groups discussed sky scaper design (widest at the bottom and thinner at the top). Each challenge requires creative and critical thinking; most of all, group success demands successful collaboration by each team member. What better way to create life-ready thinkers?
