A Virtual Visit to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston

Mrs. Mitchell's third grade class took a field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, via video conference, on December 1st.

Using various works of art, including paintings and photographs from the museum's collection of more than 500,000 works, the video conference helped students connect formative events in American history, with the symbols and historical figures that came to define our country's identity.

Ideas presented through the art works included rural and urban life, the industrial revolution, and the growth of cities. Also presented were paintings depicting historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. who fought for freedom and fairness in our society.

The program gave students an opportunity to extend concepts, learned in their social studies unit on the United States, using an alternative medium.
