9th Grade Students Featured in Current Health 1 Magazine

As eighth graders in Island Trees Memorial Middle School, Jenna Morlock, Kristen Dethlefsen, and Marisa Wetzel, coordinated one of the largest e-waste drives ever in Nassau County.  In collecting over 2,600 pounds of electronic and computer waste, the young ladies were acknowledged with a citation from the Town of Hempstead.  For their successful project, Jenna, Kristen, and Marisa were the New York State finalist team in the Siemen’s We Can Change the World Challenge and were semi-finalists in the national Christopher Columbus Awards.

As 9th graders in Island Trees High School, Jenna, Kristen, and Marisa have been featured in the latest issue of Current Health 1 Magazine (March 2010, Volume 33, No. 7).  The article, “Waste Woes: Our Old Electronic Gadgets Often Become Toxic Trash,” chronicles the e-waste drive coordinated by Jenna, Kristen, and Marisa.  A copy of the article is attached to the IT Gram.

Congratulations to Jenn, Kristen, and Marisa.  Your work has made a difference and we are all proud of you.
