Stokes Students Make a Difference!
|

 |
Mrs. O’Loughlin, fourth
grade teacher at Stokes School, coordinated a Pen Pal Program for our
entire fourth grade. Our fourth grade teachers: Mr. Steinmeyer; Mrs.
Townsend; Mr. McGowan; Mr. Flynn; Ms. Manganaro and Ms. Rossi eagerly
paired their students with students from Kenya, Africa. The children
have been writing letters to one another since September. They have been
learning about cultural differences and similarities. Our fourth
graders have created approximately 100 “goodie bags” containing much
needed school supplies and hand made crafts to be shipped to their less
fortunate friends in Kenya. The teacher in Kenya was recently involved
in the building of a new school for their children. She was so
appreciative of our students generosity that she asked our fourth grade
students to brainstorm some possible names for the new school. After
sending a list of names, the teacher in Africa selected the name, “The
School of Hope.” Our entire fourth grade is so proud to have had the
honor of naming a school in Kenya!
We are so proud of the
Stokes fourth graders for making a difference in the lives of others!
