Dear Island Trees Community,
The official groundbreaking for the new Island Trees High School athletic field was held on November 5, 2009. The new synthetic turf field will soon be host to many events and competitions, including football, lacrosse, marching band, and soccer. With construction to start this week, the Field Turf synthetic grass system will be the home field for our Bulldog high school athletic teams, as well as be available for many other community organizations and events.
Designed by H2M Group architects, the project has been in the planning stages for two years. We are equally excited about our construction team from LandTek Group. LandTek has an outstanding reputation specializing in athletic field construction and they estimate the field will be ready for use by this Spring.
We hope the project will not only enhance the student-athlete experience, but will be the focal point for our Island Trees school community. We appreciate the efforts of many people who have worked so hard to make this dream a reality. Most importantly, we would like to thank the Island Trees Board of Education and community for their commitment to our students, schools and facilities. Without their tireless support of our school district, this endeavor would not be possible. For that, we thank you all!
Local dignitaries, including Kate Murray Hempstead Town Supervisor and Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, joined the school community in the groundbreaking celebration. Marty Lyons, former New York Jet defensive tackle demonstrated his All American strength by shoveling a bit of dirt in Thursday’s ceremony. The Island Trees Marching Band performed many of their favorite tunes, and the Kickline Team was also “in step” with our groundbreaking program.
In closing, we are truly fortunate to break ground on this state of the art athletic field for our Island Trees children. We hope the new facility brings new life and energy for our students both in the classroom, as well as on our athletic field.
Please see that attached picture of our students, staff, coaches, dignitaries, and Board of Education breaking ground with the golden shovels supplied by LandTek.
