The Puerto Rico Soccer
Federation, after a week-long tryouts and evaluating
process in January, selected Island Trees own Stephan
Barea to the Puerto Rico U21 National Team Pool. The
selected players from this pool will compete in the
Central American and Caribbean Games in July 2010 in
Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Stephan Barea graduated
Island Trees in 2009 after excelling on the soccer field
for the Bulldogs. He left with numerous awards and
accomplishments: 4 year starter, All County, Team MVP,
2008 Conference player of the year, and two goal scoring
records.
He was recruited by
Hofstra University. He joined a team that has won 3
Colonial Athletic Championships in the past 5 years and
attained a National Division ranking of 13. As a
freshman Stephan made an immediate impact. He scored
just 62 seconds into his College career giving Hofstra a
1-0 win over Stony Brook. Stephan started all 17 games
and tallied team high 6 goals. He was also named to the
All-Rookie team for the CAA conference.
Barea tied for team-high
honors with six goals during his freshman season in
2009, and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association
All-Rookie team. He scored just 1:02 into his college
career when he tallied the only goal in a 1-0 win over
Stony Brook on Sept. 1. He was one of five players to
start every game for Hofstra last year.

Coach Radcliffe and the
Island Trees soccer program are proud of Stephan and
wish him good luck this summer.
