Welcome Back to Island Trees High School

Welcome to the ITHS website alumni information page.  During the course of each school year, we receive many inquiries regarding  Island Trees High School and alumni events.  Generally, ITHS graduates want to know if there is going to be a high school reunion that year, what are the upcoming high school events or sometimes they want to set up a scholarship fund in memory of a lost one.  In order to keep our alumni informed, we’ve created this site.

**New Distinguished Alumni Honors**

With the creation of our "Hall of Excellence" located in the main hallway of the high school, we've created the "Distinguished Alumni Honor."

ITHS Distinguished Alumni Honors

The Distinguished Alumni Honor is bestowed upon those who have made a difference in the world of science, the arts, technology, education, public service or journalism.  The recipients names are engraved on a perpetual plaque which was donated by the class of 1963.  For details and photos please click on "Distinguished Honorees" on the left.  Below are award recipients to date.

Class of 1962

Public Service

Class of 1963

Internet Technology

ITHS is in the process of announcing future recipients.  However, if you know of someone you would like to submit for consideration for this prestigious award, please e-mail Alumni (alumni@islandtrees.net) with the name of the nominee, year of graduation, a brief summary of accomplishments, your e-mail and the nominee's e-mail. Please remember that this is  awarded for outstanding accomplishments i.e. Mr. Courtney's distinctive public service to Nassau County for over 50 years and Dr. Leiner's induction into the worldwide Internet Hall of Fame in Berlin, Germany.  We look forward to your input.

The Island Trees Alumni Heroes Scholarship

This scholarship was established to memorialize two graduates killed on 9/11.  FDNY Kevin Smith, Class of ’72 and NYPD Claude Daniel Richards, Class of 1973 who perished while saving others at the WTC.  If  you get a chance to stop by the high school, you will see two plaques in the main lobby detailing their lives.  Each and every day, students are reminded of the heroic paths they  chose after leaving the doors of  ITHS.

Donations to Studnet Scholarships
Each year, faculty, students and staff raise funds in order to grant scholarships to deserving graduating seniors. However, with today’s economic climate, the task has become more and more difficult to accomplish.  If you, or someone you know would like to donate to one of our existing scholarships or perhaps set up a scholarship, please contact us at alumni
@islandtrees.net. The following are some of the scholarships awarded each year.

Island Trees High School is currently working on a permanent  display honoring alumni who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  Please send information to Alumni Coordinator or Marianne Slevin (e-mails below).  Thank you for your service. Island Trees High School faculty and staff thank you for your service!
